We start off the day with a transfer along the North Coastline of the island to capital of Crete, Heraklion. This takes about 2hours during which the guide will pass on a wealth of information with regards to The Minoan Civilization, Associated Greek Mythology and the excavations of Knossos Palace
Halfway through our transfer to the palace we pass Rethymnon where we will break for approx 20min for a refreshment break. Toilets are also available here. During this break we will collect the entrance fees for the Palace.
At about 10:15 the coach arrives to Knossos Palace. Here you will be greeted by the official guide and the tour will begin. During the tour you will have the chance to visit all parts of the palace and also the throne of the King Minos. The guided part of the tour goes on for about an hour and a quarter. After this you will be given free time to re-visit your favorite parts of the palace.
At approximately 12:30 we head back for the coach which will then take us for a visit to the village of Archanes amongst the vines in a thriving wine-making region. Here a Minoan Palace lies in the old Turkish quarter, near the church of Panaghia, and is believed to have been destroyed in 1450BC, at the same time as the other Minoan palaces. Ruins of buildings around its northern entrance have been uncovered, as has a section of the eastern wing. Here there is also a Minoan Cemetery. We will visit the Archanes Museum.
After leaving the museum you will have time to walk around and explore the area. We return to the coach around 16:00 and we estimate your arrival back to Chania at 18:20.
